S’Arenal des/d’en Castell is one of the most beautiful beaches on the north coast of Menorca, and the popular resort that looks over it has the same name. Some of the buildings are very close to the water-line which runs from Raconada d’es Forats to ses Llautanies. It is 9 km from Mercadal and 13 km from Alaior.

The bay is huge and almost circular, with sand sloping down to the shore and very Little vegetation. Its entrance is narrow and rocky and faces north-east and is quite calm. Several houses have been built by it.

The beach forms part of a larger bay which is flanked by the Codolada and Taronger points. There are several dangerous rock-areas by Punta Codolada (Escull Gros, Esculls d’en Truyol and Escull de s’Ofegas) which any sailor should be aware of as he enters s’Arenal d’en Castell. Beyond the Punta Taronger breakwater lies an L-shaped inlet which is fine for mooring unless there is a strong north wind.
The beach is very popular with both locals and tourists.

Please obey all safety instructions and keep an eye on the flags.
Red means danger and no entering the water.
Yellow means that you can swim but with caution.
Green means that it is safe to swim.
Orange means that there is normally a lifeguard but that he is not present.
Enjoy, but it is important that you use your common sense at all times and do not take unnecessary risks.
Domestic pets and animals are not allowed on the beach.
